I am looking to learn Taiwanese/Hokkien/Taigi! I am Chinese American, and can fluently speak both English and Mandarin. I am a PhD student in Anthropology at the University of California - Irvine. Because my research is on social media influencers in the Chinese diaspora, I also want to do research in Taiwan with Taiwanese speakers. I have English teaching experience, and can practice speaking, reading, or writing with you. My Taiwanese is very basic and I just want someone to help me pronounce basic vocabulary and read introductory grammar books with me. I love cooking, eating, hiking, reading, gardening, foraging, and listening to live music. I am staying in Chicago for an internship, and I enjoy exploring new neighborhoods as well!

Hey, I’m Priyadharshini! I’m an ENFP who loves connecting with people and exploring cultures that feel different yet familiar in some way. I have a Bachelor’s in English Literature, so I’ve always been drawn to languages and stories that carry emotion. Korean feels special to me — it’s not just beautiful to hear, but it also expresses feelings in a way that feels very human and deep. I’m learning Korean because I want to understand its culture, mindset, and art from the inside. When I’m bored, I usually watch series or documentaries, and I love diving into unusual or thought-provoking topics be it metaphysics or a random talk on how universe was born to as simple as why did people come up with the idea of having tea or why many love mangoes while I don't. After a long career as an economist, I'm easing into a new career as a part-time English teacher. I'm especially interested in helping students or working professionals with pronunciation, business English, and English for academic purposes (e.g., preparing for study abroad, presenting at conferences, reading academic texts, etc.). I'm also curious about Japanese (I only know half of hiragana and maybe 50 words) and Korean (I've learned Hangul and know maybe 200 words, zero grammar).
Actually, I was already an English teacher for two years long ago (1988-90) and now I'm going back where I started. I have a BA in English Lit and two graduate degrees in natural resource economics, so I'm happy to discuss your academic ambitions if you have any. Over the years, I've studied Latin, German, Bahasa Indonesia, and Spanish, but I still have a lot to learn about all of these.

Hey! I'm from a village in England called East Horsley, and I have an Australian passport also. I love travelling and new experiences, and have lived now in 8 countries. I was living in Kyiv when Russia invaded and stayed there for a week in the war, it was scary ; ) I was teaching English in Kyiv, mostly to children between about 10 and 15, now I am in Kyiv again.
