Hi! My name is Rei. I'm Japanese and a ceramic artist. I moved to Oxford this March with my partner. We've settled in a little, so I'd like to find some English-speaking friends. I'm a biginner at speaking English. In Japan, I lived in Kobe, Kyoto, Tokyo, and Yamagata. I'd love to talk about culture, art, bookshops, animals, and the funny little things you notice in everyday life. My spoken English isn't quite there yet, but I'm a talker. I am a Japanese based in Oxford, UK. I sometimes find it hard to keep up with English conversations, especially with native speakers. I would like to get more used to the speed and idioms of real spoken English. If you have a regional accent, that is a bonus for me (I especially struggle with Scottish and other regional accents).
Aside from language learning, I am interested in:
British history, culture, architecture, and classic novels
Nature in general
Making tea
Drawing
Learning more about plants, animals, and the city I live in
If you are interested in these areas, I could be a good partner.
I can understand and write some classical Japanese and tend to use a relatively rich vocabulary (prob top 5% among native Japanese), but I am happy to slow down and use simpler Japanese if needed.

As an Engineer and I spent 30 years designing MRI magnets for medical scanners as used in hospitals. The last job I had was at CERN in Geneva where I worked on the update for the Large Hadron Collider.
Since I retired 4 years ago I spend my time walking, playing squash and pickleball. I also have 4 grandchildren which keeps me (and my wife) fairly busy.
I am very fond of France and the French culture and language and can speak it reasonably well after having spent 4 years in Geneva. I want to continue to improve it and is the reason why I would like to speak with some Skype Francophones.
I would welcome a French/ English language exchange but with someone who can already speak reasonably good English.
